Stress Reducing Progressive Relaxation Exercise

As a busy Mom, my day is packed full of things to do—working, running errands, exercising, cooking, cleaning—the list is long so I’ll stop there before I start to feel overwhelmed.  Sometimes my mind gets overloaded and I need a quick break to clear my head.  One of the tools I use to chill out and refocus is progressive relaxation.

A progressive relaxation exercise, where you alternately tighten and relax the muscles can do just the trick when I don’t have a lot of time to recharge.  Check out this four minute audio the next time you need a moment to yourself.  If you don’t have four minutes you can do a short progressive relaxation where you inhale and tighten a body part (such as clenching your fist or tightening your shoulders) and exhale deeply and release the tension
