Mindful Mission = Resolution for the New You, not New Year

How long will it take you to get into the habit of writing 2010 in your checkbook? A week? Two weeks? A month? The point at which you no longer have to consciously make an effort to write the correct date signifies that the New Year is over and it is simply this year. Sadly, it often coincides with our sparkling New Year’s Resolutions being snuffed out by the ins and outs of life. Think back on previous New Year’s Resolutions that you have set for yourself. How did those goals work out for you?

I honestly have never had much success with my resolutions. I would give it a good go for a few weeks, but then my energized approach towards my goals would usually evaporate whenever I hit my first stumbling block. Thinking back on my not-so-resolute New Year’s resolutions, I realized that I always set my goals to be ideals that I thought I wanted, but did not necessarily fit me. Essentially, I put too much pressure on myself and gave up on my goal as soon as I didn’t follow my ideal perfectly. In time I became so disillusioned with New Year’s Resolutions that I stopped making them.

This year I am making a MINDFUL MISSION to start off the New Year! My mission is to live the life I desire by setting various goals and mindfully taking the steps necessary to achieve my goals. Who knows how many goals I will set and achieve this year? I know the road to reaching my goals will not be paved with perfection, but any traveler can tell you that the bumpy roads often lead to the most exciting destinations.

If you have goals you want to achieve that is fantastic! However, do not set them for the New Year. Set your goals for the New YOU!

Live Well,

Martha
