Holiday Spirit On Sale

I just got home after running some last minute Christmas errands. The stores are packed and the roads are jammed. As I waited at a red light, I began brainstorming more ideas I could add to the following:

Holidays are expensive. Don’t feel like you have to turn into Scrooge to save money. Creative ideas can cut down on costs wile boosting special memories. Here are a few deals you may enjoy:

*Instead of exchanging presents with your girlfriends, get together and have a used book exchange.

*Instead of going out to the movies, invite family and friends over for a special movie night at home and watch old holiday favorites from your own collections, the library, or TV specials.

*Use the front of old Christmas cards to decorate plain white boxes for gifts instead of wrapping boxes in paper. Double bonus = save money and reduce waste. (Don’t have any old holiday cards? Start saving for next year.)

There are lots of ways to spend special holiday time with friends and family without spending a lot of dough. Be mindful the season is about the spirit, not the stuff!

Mindfully, Martha

How do you share the holiday spirit with others without spending a lot of $$$$? Share with us….

Radio Interview: Our Voices Out Loud

About a month ago one  Saturday Martha and I were scurrying around trying to find a land line.  Who has a land line?  We desperately needed one for our first radio interview for The Author’s Wellness show.  We were in Southern Pines, NC visiting our parents so we ended up using one at a hotel where another friend was staying.  We planned out what questions we each would answer and even though as teachers we are both used to talking we found ourselves a little anxious before we began.  However, we had a great experience with host Don McCauley and overall it was a fun experience.  We hope you will tune in to listen to our interview on December 8th and 9th on The Wellness Authors Website

     What we learned:

  •                 Stay relaxed and have fun!
  •                 Practice your responses ahead of time
  •                 Trying new things can be challenging, but challenging yourself helps you grow!

Thanks for tuning in to our radio interview and we hope you will continue to try new things to continue growing and expanding your world!

Live Well,

Laura and Martha

What Two New Bloggers Learned at the Type-A Mom Conference

Dream, Learn, Do, Become

Wow!  I am excited, tired and most of all inspired!  This past weekend, Martha and I went to our first blogging conference in Asheville, NC.  We learned a ton and here are just a few of our take home messages:

*The impact of Twitter!  Okay, so admittedly we were pretty confused and clueless about Twitter!  Now it makes much more sense.

*Moms are  a strong, powerful community of bloggers!

*The endless possibilities of what you can do with your blog.

*Most of all I was inspired by the women who dream big and make it happen!  Our Sunday morning speaker, Maxine Clark, CEO and founder of Build-a-Bear, thanked her teachers and reminded me of the positive impact I can have through my teaching and blogging.  Aliza Sherman the closing keynote reminded us to believe in ourselves and closed with four powerful words:

Dream, Learn, Do, Become

There was so much great information that I feel overwhelmed about where to begin.  In the  Mindful Makeover for Moms spirit, I am going to pick one new thing to incorporate this week and another next.  This week,  I am going to sign up for a twitter dashboard program.  I think that will make my twitter use more effective.  Next week, I will focus on the blog improvements that I learned.

This was a great opportunity to learn about the power of blogging and to remind us all to focus on our own passion and purpose.  I am reminded of our mission to inspire and empower Moms to take care of their health and wellness in order to be positive role models.

A special thank you to Kelby Carr for bringing this great conference to my backyard, Asheville, NC.

What did you take away from the weekend?
